This is a fabulous lens, sharp, nice bokeh, good colors. Have not used the 50 1.8 so can not comment on comparison. On the 20D it is the lens I go to for indoor family, general street and other low light shots at this focal length. Put it in your bag and you will be surprised how often you choose it. Forces you to be much more creative than a zoom.
