Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM

ef17-40_4l_1_
Review Date: Mar 30, 2004 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $680.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: same as the rest of the people say.
Cons:
big HOOD which looks like sunflower. you'll get much attention in public places with it... indeed, it's oversized for 10D because of the crop factor. also, it's hard to put the camera on flat surface with the hood. camera sits perfectly level w/o the hood though. I use EW-83D II instead.

... stop reading this and just go get one.

Canon EF 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 USM

Review Date: Aug 17, 2003 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $270.00 | Rating: 6

Pros: small size, low price, fair image quality
Cons:
zoom creep, barrel and pincushion distortion

It's ok quality, considering the price I paid.
Not as sharp as other prime lenses i have (of course), but easy size to carry around. Appropriate for everyday snapshots, especially with DSLR, which you might wanna be more careful about lens exchange to avoid introducing dust on image sensor. I'll bring this one with 10D for travel situasions.

Review Date: Jul 4, 2003 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $300.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: sharp, bright (f1.8), cost, good look on 10D
Cons:
misses focus sometimes

135mm equiv. on 10D. Perfect for my use (to get architectural details). Excellent image quality.

Canon EF 20mm f/2.8 USM

Review Date: May 28, 2003 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $350.00 | Rating: 8

Pros: 35(32)mm equivalent with 10D (1.6 multiplier) so, easy to frame. price. nice bokeh.
Cons:
big (fat). slightly blurred at perimeter (even with clopped image of 10D)

This is my first Canon lens. I purchased it with 10D, because I thought it'll be smooth transition from compact digital. Barrel distortion is more than I expected (my field is architectural and interior photography, so I'm severe on this). Not so impressed with the contrast, but does the job as much as the price. Bokeh is good with close-up. Would be suitable for daily snapshots.
