Review Date: Jun 15, 2006 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 10

Pros: This lens is sharpest lens on my lens collection... Sweet spot at F4 and F5.6.. fast focus and good built quality.
CA at 1.8 and F2.8

It is the sharpest lens in my lens collection.
I ran all test and compare each lens Image quality.

Rank this sharpest lens at Aperture F2.8 to F5.6: First is 85F1.8 ; 70-200F2.8; 24-70F2.8 and last 50F1.8

I am happy with my lens collection...

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II

Review Date: Jun 15, 2006 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 9

Pros: It is sharp at F2.8... very sharp at F5.6... Good price
Cheap quality build.. soft at F1.8.

For the money, this lens is great deal... It is very sharp at F5.6.. I can say the sweet spot is F5.6 not at F8..
For close shot this is work well with Manual focus.. For 2 feet distance from the object, this lens does not work well with AF.. compare between Manual focus and Auto Focus at 2 feet distance. Manual focus was sharper..

Recomend to buy this lens for the money.. For build quality should get the 50 F1.4

Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM

Review Date: Jun 15, 2006 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 10

Pros: Good Optical, sharp all focal length. Nice contract... very sharp at wide open...

I am happy with this lens. Send to Canon for calibration front/back focus and shaprness along with my 24-70F2.8L...
Test shot at wide open and I amazed with the picture quality..F2.8 is sharper than 24-70F2.8L...
Focus is fast and accurate..Thank to Canon correct the back focus on my 300D body last year and recently had focus adjust and AE firmware upgrade...
Highly recomend to buy this lens..

Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM

Review Date: Oct 20, 2005 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 10

Pros: Sharp sharp at wide open F2.8. Fast AF, nice contract, color. Bright viewfinder. Solid build like tank. Good for wedding photography. Fast zoom lens in its range. Pro lens ...Razor sharp at stop down aperture.
Just little heavy after hold for few hours. It is Ok. just bit soft at 70mm at F2.8. I like Prime lens it is sharper than zoom.

This is my third copy which Canon replaced for me.
Finally, I got good copy. No back focus and sharpness issue.
Most of my sharpness test at F2.8 indicated the sharpness of this lens.

Here are the link to see the F2.8 sharpness test.

Happy keeper

Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM

Review Date: Oct 21, 2004 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $899.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: Sharp, sharp at F8, F11, F16. Nice contract. Extreme Fast focus. Constant F4, Wide angle, Quiet USM, Good quality build. Weather seal.
Bulky hood. It is not big deal. Hood 83D II is right one for 1.6 crop. The 83E is made for film not for digital, extra cost for proper hood.

I love this lens, after upgrade from kit lens 18-55mm F3.5-5.6. I have learned on image analysis. This lens is extreme fast focus compare to my 70-200 F4L. Both "L" contract and color also sharpness are close.

I can afford to get F2.8 but for indoor shot, using flash with slow the F/stop to optimize the lens sharpness. No problem with this, I am still learning curve on using F4 for night shot. Of course tripod is needed for indoor picture. My 550EX flash is capable to fill large area.

Final word for this lens is build like tank.
