Fuji FinePix S2 Pro

Review Date: Feb 16, 2004 Recommend? no | Price paid: $1,800.00 | Rating: 6

Pros: Big files, Nikon F mount, nice color
Battery weirdness, vertical banding in the shadows, raw convertor, no mirror lock up, slow, slow, slow

Coming from the D100 to this camera was like going back to using a brownie camera LOL , I took it back after 2 outings . The D100 is edged by the files out of the camera only if you are a shooter who doesn't understand post processing the D100 files. I prefer the D100 to this camera hands down, the D100 has better noise reduction and allows much more latitude in the darkroom for recovery of shadow detail , if you process the same shot between the 2 cameras the D100 will not show banding in the shadow areas , the files are smaller , from the D100 , have to be massaged more in post processing , the skin tones are not as good out of the camera , but on the plus side the D100 is so much faster in teh field to use , it seems so much engineering was left out of the camera on the S2 ,

In short it is not a good fit for my needs , oh how I wish it were , perhaps the S3 will be the Fuji for me Smile

Nikon 85mm f/1.4D IF AF Nikkor

Review Date: Sep 7, 2003 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $725.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: Light weight and has the 77mm mount like all my other Nikkors

I am adding a few select primes to my kit , this is my first Nikkor prime. I am in love with this lens, the focus is fast even tho it is not AFS. The images are tack sharp and contrasty but not too oversaturated, wide open it is a dream, the bokeh is just wonderful. I look forward to having this lens for a very long time.

Nikon 12-24mm f/4G ED-IF AF-S DX

Review Date: Jul 24, 2003 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $1,100.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: AFS ! Light weight, contrasty and detailed, lack of flare and ghosting, edge to edge sharpness
I hate the focus ring position, it is "backwards" from my other Nikkors. F4 Maximum aperture

I purchased this lens to cover the last "hole" in my kit. I am very happy with this lens , I do alot of indoor shots and really like the zoom range here. As a landscape lens it is really sharp and the images are uncanny in their realism.Alos I do a great deal of flower shooting, this lens minimum focus distance really makes for interesting close up with tons of DOF.

2 thumbs up way up !
