Nikon D200

NikonD200
Review Date: Jul 27, 2006 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 9

Pros: robust body, faster focusing than my current D70, VF is much better than current D70, 10.2MP gives me more space for cropping, 5fps, Kelvin WB, AWB also gives better WB accuracy, 2.5" LCD screen, vertical grip, accurate metering and color.
Cons:
Battery life is so so but that's why i bought MBD200 and extra battery and whole lotsa NiMHs, flash sync is 1/250s (D70/s is 1/500s), ocassional banding if shooting under lowlight condition or too contrasty situation.

Bought the camera late 2005 when it first came out. Heard and read too many bad experiences reported by first few owners. Anyway i still bought the camera due to my faith in Nikon product Wink. I believed Nikon would have done an extensive R&D on the D200.

Bought the camera as i need a second body for my wedding engagements and also as backup body for my faithful D70 (My D70 had shutter clicks of abt 50K when i bought the D200 but up until today it is going strong).

Anyway, the camera performed as i expected it to be. Simple tweaked in saturation setting and the pics really stand out. Yes, it true when they said it is a small bro of D2x. Really enjoyed the camera esp. the 5fps (for sports shooting). Loaded white wedding curve for my wedding assignments and also general shooting.

Here are pics taken with D200 http://www.pbase.com/afaizal/2006

The battery performance needs to be improved but they have MBD200. Ocassional banding happens but that is abt less than 1% than total pics taken.

Kudos to Nikon for coming out with D200!

Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR

Review Date: Feb 14, 2006 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 9

Pros: Ergonomics, sharp, bokeh is awesome!!, VR, built quality
Cons:
expensive? you get what you paid for,

Bought this lens after using Sigma 70-200/2.8 for a few months. The Sigma was a good lens but there was something missing.

Finally bought the Nikon. The bokeh is beautiful. Even with 1.4x KENKO teleconverter, the images are still very much usable.

Used the lens to shoot motorsports, weddings, stage concerts/theater and other. VR really works like a charm for low light shooting.

Highly recommended!

Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 EX APO IF HSM

Review Date: Aug 4, 2004 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 10

Pros: Fast focusing (that's what you get for a 70-200/2.8! :-)), good built, ability to manual focus after AF-lock, nice tripod collar.
Cons:
nothing much, except that i wish it would be smaller and lighter to fit into my bag! ;-)

Got the lens in early July 2004 after doing some research to go with my Nikon D70. heard lots of stories on this wonderful lens. tested and finally got one.

Bought a used Sigma 2X teleconverter. The HSM and AF works wonderfully. have to use monopod/tripod for stability. Use the TC for equestrian showjumping (http://faizal.fotopic.net/c247070.html) and the unit worked like charm! both of them (actually three of them including the Nikon D70) working very well.

Highly recommended!!
