Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 AF APO DG OS

150-500
Review Date: Nov 29, 2009 Recommend? | Price paid: $1,075.00

Pros: Cost, OS
Cons:
Just a tad slow !

Before one goes in for lenses ABOVE 300mm one should know the basic rules of using these teles ! In decent light (and without TCs !) this lens can definitely producing remarkably optimum results even at 500 mm end (often criticised for lack of sharpness).

The following shots were scored under somewhat muted light @ 500mm @ ISO 640 on a D90 atop a tripod, using an optimum 8.0 aperture :

Pros: Price, IQ
Cons:
Non-IS ??

Probably the cheapest (and the best) L glass that will perform as 300/2.8 on any crop DSLR !

Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 AF APO DG OS

150-500
Review Date: May 10, 2009 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $975.00 | Rating: 8

Pros: SUPER value for money. Decent IQ.
Cons:
Practically none as yet, especially if one has the patience to go through the learning-curve required for all LONG lenses ! Won't dare using 1.4X or 2X on the prime optics.

A very practical zoom range for nature/widlife lovers. Can easily be used hand-held if we hit the right ISO-focal length combo. I combine this lens with my Tamron 18-270 - and these two zooms more than fulfil all my requirements (short of SIGMONSTER of course !).

Sigma 105mm f2.8 EX Macro 1:1 Lens

Review Date: Jul 30, 2004 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 6

Pros: Seems decent piece of equipment for its quoted cost ! Surely OK as a macro alternative
Cons:
Construction !!

Over a period of time I've come to realize that the most functional macro in terms of practicality & image quality is Nikon's 70-180 ED-AF-D lens. Though not 1:1, it performs with a decent diopter in front. Moreover, provides a sturdy tripod collar ! Cost may seem like a bit higher, but the image quality & the lens functionality more than compensate for that !
