Nikon TC-20E II 2x AF-S

tc-20E
Review Date: Oct 17, 2008 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 8

Pros: image quality on the 500mm, price, build quality
Cons:
needs a really good quality lens

i bought this converter to work with my new Nikon 500mm VR lens and the results are fantastic with both my D300 and D3 bodies.

autofocus performance and accuracy are great with both bodies even though Nikon say that this tele wont autofocus.

Image quality was the big surprise after all the negative threads i have read. The 500Vr is a superb lens with very few equals and this converter works superbly with this lens.

Highly recommended.

Pros: Image Quality is unsurpassed, build quality is fantastic, VRII is superb
Cons:
weight

This new lens, from Nikon, was definately worth the long wait. The image quality and build quality are fantastic. What I was surprised about was how well this lens takes all three Nikon teleconverters and retains superb image quality and autofocus performance on my D300 and D3 bodies. The 2x is always called the "runt" of the family but this lens shows that the 2x can be usable even for exhibition quality A3 and A2 prints

the VRII system works superbly steadying this big lens even in a strong breeze.

If you need a lens like this, and can afford the asking price then you will not be disappointed.

Get yourself a good tripod, i am using it with a Gitzo 5541Ls and a Wimberly version 2 gimbal head. This combo will add about 1200 to the bill but it is worth every penny.

I have posted a gallery below of which all the shots were either taken with the 1.7x or the 2x teleconverters

Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L USM

Review Date: Jul 23, 2006 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 10

Pros: Build Quality, Image Quality including centre and edge sharpness, superb Bokeh, colour and contrast, feels great and very well balanced on my 5D (with Grip), 1dMK2n's and 1dsMk2's. Razor sharp at ALL apertures, very smooth and accurate focusing ring.
Cons:
Nothing except maybe price is off putting for some, but worth it, absolutely no regrets.

This lens definately belongs in Canon's group of elite lenses. It is among the very best, up there with the greats such as the 85L, 135L and the super telephoto's.

All the components that go into superb image quality, such as sharpness, bokeh, resolving power, colour and contrast are outstanding.

If you need this lens, and can justify the price then do not hesitate.

It has replaced the 24-70L in my bag for most assignments.

This lens on my 5D with a 24-105L IS or 70-200L IS on my 1Dmk2 or 1dsmk2 make up my wedding kit.

Pros: Sharpness, image quality, Image stabiliser, bokeh, Build quality, super smooth tripod mounting ring,
Cons:
Cost, but you get what you pay for so not really a complaint.

What a lens, in everyway, this lens is one of the best that Canon produce, along with the 400F2.8, 500F4 and 600F4's they are professional tools.

I cannot understand the previous reviewers comments about the tripod collar, mine is super smooth like the one on my 500F4L IS.

The quality of this lens is in another league, and easily the equal, or better than the old non IS version.

If you can justify the purchase price, and need a lens of this range, buy it, you will not be disappointed.

Canon EOS 1D Mark II

Review Date: May 30, 2004 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 10

Pros: The best allround digital SLR on the Market. Unmatched performance. AF superb, ETTL 2 flash is deadly accurate. Colours Superb, battery performance is fantastic (2000+ shots from single charge using image stabilizer lenses and review facility after shot).
Cons:
None.

What a camera, my old 1D's have just been relegated to book ends and the 1Ds's to back up duties for most shoots. This camera produces superb Jpeg and Raw files with little post processing. The colours are superb and blown highlights are almost a thing of the past. There have been posts saying that reds cause problems, but this is not the case. For pro wedding photographers this camera is the best, the combination of speed, accuracy and the awesome flash system make it a no brainer purchase.

As far as resolution goes it is a superb landscape camera also, resolving very slightly less detail than the 1Ds (11 mpixel), but hardle worth mentioning in prints upto 30inch x 24inch.

The best all round professional camera on the market, for any job, no exceptions.

Well done Canon.
