Sigma 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM

Review Date: Feb 14, 2010 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 10

Pros: Bokeh, color reproduction, image sharpness, and mechanical built.
Cons:
None especially for the price.

I have had this lens for about a month, took several landscape and portrait photos with this lens on my Canon 5D mkI, and have found no focusing issue with this Sigma copy. I am glad I made this purchase. This 50mm will be especially handy as a general purpose lens when I do not feel like lugging around a relatively heavier or bulkier L prime.

Pros: Phenomenal sharpness and color reproduction
Cons:
None

A L lens that truly deserves its legendary reputation. I take mostly indoor pictures of my kids using natural light and 5D MkII. I rotate mostly the 85L II and this lens in and out of the camera body. The other lens takes fantastic pictures, but at the same time when I look at those produced by the 135mm, I fall in love with this piece of glass every time. As mentioned above, sharpness and color reproduction are out of this world, and AF is fast enough to track my busy kids. Build quality is of course L quality, with a price IMHO below the amazing capability of this lens.

Pros: Sharp even from F1.2, beautiful color reproduction and contrast. All in all, IQ and excellent built deserve its legendary reputation as a top notch L-series prime.
Cons:
Price, but you truly get what you pay for in this case.

I have gradually weaned off my Canon zoom collection in favor of primes. I read many reviews on the positive and negative aspects of this lens then decided to take the plunge. I love portrait photography and this lens really represents one of my best purchases to date, despite of its price. On my 5D its FL is perfect for what I need. Its built and the IQ production exude top-rated L-series excellence. Along with the 35L and 135L, it truly completes the Canon holy trinity.

Sigma 70mm F2.8 EX DG MACRO

Review Date: Jan 12, 2009 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $399.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: Outstanding resolution and color reproduction from f/2.8 on. Excellent built and handling. I use this lens mainly for outdoor portraits and occasional macro shots with either my 5D or 20D, which suits my need perfectly. This lens' s optical quality appears to be in parallel to my L-series Canon lenses.
Cons:
No HSM, but this does not bother me a bit.

Enough said, as one can also see from others' comments on this lens.
