I bought the Canon 28-135 IS and tried it, then bought this lens and tried it for a while. It was really no contest in my opinion. Even without the IS, the Tamron is a better lens. It is sharper and performs better than the IS lens. It is well built and has a quality feel to it. Focus is quick and accurate. It will 'hunt' sometimes in low light, but it's not a problem. Colors are accurate and bright. I have no experience with L lenses, but I can't imagine them being a lot better than this. And they cannot possibly be a better value for the amount paid. I rarely say this, but this is a very good product. I highly recommend it.
