Very sharp even wide open, good contrast and color. Very fast focusing.

In my opinion this lens might be the best non-L lens.
As fast as many L one, as sharp, well built and very good price.
Even at wide aperture the shrpness is very good.
Excellent portrait lens on a 5D.

None for the price. Hard to find nowadays.

This is the best value for the money in Canon line up.
Much better built than the newer MKII plastic version.
At wide open it's fairly sharp and very usable, but it vignettes a lot at f/1.8 on a 5D.
From f2.2 everything get better : incredibly sharp, nice color and contrast.
