Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR

Review Date: Dec 30, 2005 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 10

Pros: speed, sharpness, handling, VR works like magic
Cons:
expensive

I achived great results with my former 70-300G tele-lens. But the first time i used the 70-200VR i saw how much easier i could have achived my shots in comparison. This lens is sharp, easy to use and very fast. VR works as advertised. Itīs simply a great lens.

Pros: fast, sharp, great to handle
Cons:
expensive

After using the 18-70DX the use of the 17-55DX changed my shooting-experience completely. This lens does everything i could have ever asked for. The only concern i had was for the 55mm vs. 70mm but it turned out that - using the 70-200VR - you change to the real tele as soon as you reach the 55mm as you at this point normally need more tele then the 15mm. So, no big deal at all.

Nikon 50mm f/1.4D AF Nikkor

Pros: fast, fast, fast, sharp even wide open, nicely build
Cons:
restriction due to 50mm focal lenght

This light (230g), small (64,5 x 42,5/diameter-lenght) lens is really unobstrusive but very capable. Though i would highly recommend to stop it down to f/2.8 even wide open this lens delivers great results. Normally working with the 17-55DX f/2.8 i need to get another handholding as this lens is really tiny but got used to it quickly. Only "limitation" is thatīdue to the crop-factor of my D70 itīs hard to use in narrow environement (eg. museum) - means a lot of running arround.

All in all i donīt regret that i bought it and recommend it to everybody who wantīs the fastest affordable available light Nikkor.

Pros: fast, silent, nice feel
Cons:
zoomring worked a bit too easy, didnīt found the right position to mount at the first time

Had today the opportunity to have same test shots with this fine lens. Worked very nice, quick, quitely - all in all a nice lens BUT compared to my Nikkor AF-S DX 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED it wasnīt sharper nor was the viewfinder brighter as reports claimed.

Anyhow - if somebody needs a 17-35 ranged lens - take this fine lens in consideration itīs worth it.
