Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM

Review Date: Aug 22, 2006 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 10

Pros: Sharp, good contrast, great in low light
Cons:
None

A superb lens, have shot over 40,000 frames with it in 6 months and the only bad shots have come from user error. Fast auto focus - so much so that I find myself being dissapointed with my other lenses auto focus speeds. Really sharp - that the slight softening that you get with a 1.4 converter does not matter. If you are looking to shoot golf, football or any other field sport this is a great lens.

Review Date: May 22, 2006 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $2,300.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: Speed and accuracy of auto focus, 8.2MP, 8.5 FPS, extended ISO, dual card facility.
Cons:
none really, could have a larger sensor - could be a 1dsMkII @ 8.5 FPS

Awesome piece of kit, am buying another one next month. Accuracy & speed of auto focus = more keepers in sports. What you would expect of a pro body. I would suggest that anyone serious about sport photography gets one Smile

Pros: Solid as a rock, little or no degradation in image quality. Saved makes your long primes longer :)
Cons:
None.

Great product, does what it says on the tin.

Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM

Review Date: May 15, 2005 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 6

Pros: Good reach, Versatility as a lens, Push Pull zoom,
Cons:
Not very sharp at 400mm, Not fast enough for action shots in dull weather.

A great all round lens. It is not a prime, so don't expect the image quality at 400mm to be particularly sharp (on my copy anyway) If you get a particularly sharp copy, like some previous reviewers have, it will be a great all round lens that will be glued to the front of your camera.

I am personally going to be getting a longer prime as 400mm is not quite long enough for capturing smaller birds.
