I recently purchased the 300 2.8L is & was after one last lens to round out the range. The 85 was an option I had been considering for a while.
Nothing I can say adds to what has already been stated. I can only add my vote to one absolutely awesome lens.
The weight feels nice on the MK3's.... well balanced.

I have owned each of the DS units & currently have the 1DS3 & 1D3.
After using the 1D3 for a couple of months I was sold on the latest generation from Canon. The colour is the best yet, the metering is great & overall the operation is far more streamlined.
And that is just the 1D3. The 1DS3 feels the same & operates in the same format.... with bigger files.

A lens I did not really need to get but bought it cos I can. I have just purchased the 1DMK3 so I get 390mm or a straight 300 on my 1DSMK2.
While I could live without this lens I have a vision of the direction my photography will go given the opportunity to shoot with a new perspective.
In the very short time I have used the magnificent 300 f2.8 is, I have been blown away blown away by the incredible quality of the images it produces. Very natural colour, sharp as a tack, beautiful contrast & backgrounds that are thrown so far out of focus...... it is gorgeous.
You want this lens ? Just get it.... Can't afford it..... just get it. If you are serious about photography & are making a living out of it. You need it.

Incredible. As soon as I saw the white paper I got excited. Despite the negative AF reports I went straight out & bought one without even trying it. Canon have exceeded their previous models by a long shot. The image quality is amazing & the overall handling is fantastic.
I bought this as a backup to my 1DSMK2 but the MK3 will now be my main camera unless I need to go wide angle.
