Pros:

bokeh, HSM, razor sharp. Did I mention the buttery bokeh?! Works like a champ on the 5D.
|
|
Cons:
|
needed a factory visit to straighten out the focusing issue. Now focuses at all distances extremely well.

Totally worth the extra effort to get the focus right. Will be holding on to my copy for the foreseeable future.

Pros:

L glass. Sharp sharp sharp wide open. Excellent IS. Able to shoot hand held 1/15 at 200mm

Cons:
|
ugly hood

If you can afford it buy the IS version. Returned the non IS version because had to keep speeds upwards of 1/250 to get critically sharp shots. With IS, can drop that down significantly. Can confidently shoot at 1/50 with a high keeper rate.
Considered the 2.8IS briefly, but went with the f4 for weight reasons. Don't think twice, pull the trigger.
What more can I say that already hasn't been said about this great lense... desitned to be one of Canon's greatest medium zooms...
