This lens is amazing. It takes razor sharp pictures. It is sharp at 2.8, with no noticable distortions to the image. On the macro side, there is ultimate control over the depth of field. This can make for some difficult macros, but if you know what you are doing, you should be alright.
Instead of getting a 50 prime, go with this. You will not be sorry.
