Pros: We recieved this lens May 2003. Canon Mount. First out of the large semi soft case the lens looks and feels like a fine piece of Glass. The hood fits well with a leather cover that fits when it is reversed for added protection. As all large lens it is heavy and requires good tripod support for sharp images. Large mounting bracket shaped with finger grips.lots of mounting screw holes for balance adjustments. The three position focus settings has come in handy for field work with Swans across a large pond allowing the lens to pick up focus quicker. A big surprise when I carefully measured and then fit my 1.4 X Canon extender on the lens. AF on the 1D worked well and the added magnification was welcome. have taken flights shoots of Geese and Swans with good repsonse to focus and other avian shoots. Lens is sharp in all cases. A 40 % crop of shoot taken produced a great card printed at 5x7 with little USm aplied in Photo shop. Our real test will be a week of avain photogrpahy June 12. I will update with some shots there after. so far very happy.
Cons:
The matte black finish of the lens tends to show dust easliy althoug wipes off clean with a damp towel.
