Acratech ballhead

Review Date: Mar 21, 2010 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 9

Pros: Light weight, inovative design, easy to clean, good value.
Cons:

The Acratech Ultimate is a great light weight ballhead that gets the job done. With my D300 and 105VR lens macro shots are made a lot easier to get with this ballhead than some others. I love this inovative design that makes it easy to keep the unit clean. With heavier lenses there is a slight drop as the unit is tightened. Not really a problem as I compensate for this and the camera settles where I want it. This ballhead is a great value and should last many many years.

Pros: Sharp, fast AF, color, contrast, bokeh & VR
Cons:
Weight (but you know that before buying it)

I've had a long career as a photographer (now retired) and used many lenses by many makers over the years. This lens, the Nikon 70-200VR, might very well be the best of them all.
Yes it is heavy but it balances well on my D300. It's worth every ounce. Love it for the reason sated above.

See under "positive aspects". What more needs to be said?
If you don't have it... get it.

Pros: sharp, fast, beautiful bokeh, well built.
Cons:
Nothing I can think of other than I should use it more.

So what's not to like? I've heard stories about a rather slow AF but this is not the case on my D200. I find AF to be fast enough to capture running dogs at 20-30 mph. That's fast enough for me. I like this lens very much. It makes magic happen. I always bring home a prize when this lens is chosen.

Pros: Sharp at f2.8, very nice bokeh, very fast AF, light weight, good build.
Cons:
At macro distance lens can be too close to subject.

The AFS 60 f/2.8 is a terrific lens that's great for closeup work and as a all around lens. I like using it for photographing running (playing) dogs and the auto focus for this purpose is great. Very very fast AF.
For flowers and other small things the lens is just about perfect giving sharp images with good contrast, color and a beautiful bokeh. You probablly do better with another lens for photographing bugs or other tiny and shy creatures as this lens will get too close to the subject and can interfere with lighting. That being said, this well built but light lens will not let you down. An excellent and versitle choice.

Nikon 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5D AF

Review Date: Apr 29, 2009 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 9

Pros: Good range, very sharp stopped down a little, light weight, macro capability, excellent bokeh and nearly no distortion. Price!
Cons:

My current copy of this lens is my second copy. Soon after selling the first copy I realized my mistake and got another. I use and prefer the 28-105 to my excellent 35-70 2.8.
The images are sharp and the bokeh from the 9 blades produce a very pleasing bokeh. Straight lines stay straight with this 16 oz. gem. They can now be had in like-new condition for $150 to $175. What's not to like?

Tokina 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124 AF PRO DX SD

Review Date: Apr 8, 2009 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $450.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: Sharp wide open, great color rendition, quality build, well priced.
Cons:
Other than sample variation, nothing negative to say.

This is an excellent lens. I use it for all my needs at the wide end. The first copy I received was badly decentered. It was returned. It's replacement is sensational. Everything I could hope for and them some.
I thought about getting a Sigma 10-20mm but I need the 24mm of the Tokina more than the 10mm of the Sigma. Not at all sorry I made the choice I did.
