Canon EF 400mm f/4 DO IS USM

Review Date: Aug 12, 2007 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $5,300.00 | Rating: 9

Pros: Just light enough for prolonged use while hiking.

This was my only alternative in my mind for on the go shooting afield. So glad I didn't get the 300 2.8 for that extra size and weight. Handheld shots at ISO 200 and f/5.6 with the 1.4 tc are easily accomplished.

I've heard complaints about contrast and this far I can't see any problem in this area.

Quick focus and lovely color...a great lens.

The price is ridiculous...but if you want to play...

Canon EF 300mm f/4L IS USM

Review Date: Jul 24, 2006 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $1,150.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: Perfect lens.

Don't hum, haw and hee around like I did. Just get one.

I bought an extra body just so this lens and the 1.4 TC could stay on it all the time!

Really nothing to talk's that good.

Here's one of my first shots:

Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM

Review Date: Apr 29, 2006 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $1,150.00 | Rating: 9

Pros: Great range...small size...good saturation...files take very well to sharpening. Robust build...and it's black! Fast accurate AF.
Zoom stiffness and creep can be irritating at times.

Earlier posts about poor image quality were greatly exaggerated...or quality control has improved. This lens has a great feel to it...with fantastic results.

Since there is nothing else like it, it deserves a high mark for innovation alone.

After 500 frames I have no complaints and feel like I spent my money wisely. Other lens will out perform this one for specific applications, but this is one you will use more often.

Highly recommended.

Canon EF-S 17-85mm f4-5.6 IS USM

Review Date: Jan 24, 2005 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $599.00 | Rating: 8

Pros: Fits the 20D like a glove. If you could afford only one lens...this would be it. Solid feel and stiff zoom (much to my liking).
Not quite as good as the 17-40L. That extra reach makes it more useable for me.
