I've shot all of the L glass mid-range zooms and COMPARATIVELY speaking this lense is a great value!

No, it not the sharpest but images are quite sharp when properly post processed as all digital images should be.

No, it is not the fastest but is quite fast in good light with proper camera settings.

Yes, it is light and well balanced on the 40D.

Yes, it has a great zoom range for general purpose use.

Yes, it may be the best value walk-around Canon offers.

For these reasons I rate it overall a 10.

Pros: Great lense
Cons:
None for me

Hello all,

So many have said so much in these reviews.

I will simply share a small gallery of test shots with you.

You be the judge!

Note: Some say it this lense is soft at 2.8 but I would only use that aperture when absolutely necessary. And that is not very often.

Thanks for looking.

Phil

Pros: What a value!
Cons:
None (if you KNOW your post processing)

Folks, I'm not going to say much. Seeing is believing:

Macro (with extension tubes and tripod)

At 100 in very low light:

At 200 handheld:

Superb color, contrast and sharpness make a great starting point for post processing optimization.
