Pros:
|
Very sharp, perfect color rendition and contrast.
Zoom and focus rings very well positioned, lens balances well.

Cons:
|
Tripod collar is a joke.

Whilst this lens has no AF-S, the focusing is very quick and snappy.
This lens handles really well (except for the tripod collar of course) and is a joy to use. Image quality is excellent

Nikon 105mm f/2.8D AF Micro

Pros:
|
Great optical characteristics from f5.6-f22, ability to go to f57 if needed.
Nice range for insects/flowers etc. 1:1 without the need for any extension tubes, etc.

|
Cons:
|
Mid-range situations can sometimes be difficult due to the AF hunting and being sluggish (on a CAM-900 body). The focus throw being extremely short at longer distances doesn't help in manually focusing this lens either, but that's not what it was designed for so this becomes a small detail.

This is a very nice compromise between the 60mm and 200mm Micro lenses.
Optically, I can't find any faults with this lens in the field it was designed for (extreme close-ups using very small apertures). CA is nonexistant past F8 which is commendable for a lens employing no ED elements.
This is a great lens for any kind of close-up work and I recommend it highly.
