It’s a great lens. I’m very glad I bought it. It works well with my 5D. It’s far better than 50mm 1.4.
But it has some AF problems. I usually shoot 5 times the same object and usually 1 only of the shots is sharp. That’s not a flattering rate. But shooting digital makes this not a major problem for me. And on the other hand: If it’s sharp - its not just sharp, its razorsharp, its marvellous, it’s magic, the blur in the background very pleasing, nice colors, and you can’t get a comparable shot with the 50mm 1.4 (let alone the 1.8).
If shooting distant objects (3m or more) the focus problems are even bigger - at least with my copy. Even if stopped down it can be hard to get the focus on the right spot.
It is a wonderful lens in poor lighting conditions. Af still works (with the 5 to 1 rate of succesfully. With it I never have to use flash, not even when shooting a jazz band in a dark club.
I would certainly recommend it for everyone who needs a good portrait lens or has to work in conditions where light is poor.
