I upgraded from the 350D to the 40D & am very pleased I did.
I do not notice a huge improvement in Image Quality but the 40D is certainly much easier to use.
The large LCD screen (we'll be laughing at how small it seems in 2 years time!) is great - I can actually see the image AND the histogram at the same time now.
Ergonomically it is great as well - fits easily into my hand & just feels right.
Custom Functions are very useful enhancement to my 350D as well.

I have just taken this lens on holiday to Italy.
The quality of the images of cathedrals & museums is GREAT.
Pin sharp to the edges, no vignetting, great contrast & saturation.
Expensive ... but worth it

Pros:

Great contrast, punchy, saturated colours, fast, accurate focusing. Build quality is great.

Cons:

Big mistake I made was putting a 1A filter on it, which dropped the contrast SO much (?).
Does it have to be SO white?

This is my first L lens & I am now addicted. The colours are great & it produces excellent pictures, even for an amateur like myself.
