Canon EOS 1D Mark III

1DmkIII
Review Date: Dec 27, 2008 Recommend? | Price paid: Not Indicated

Pros: Fast frame rate, great color, low noise with hight ISO,
Cons:
The time it is taking me to learn to operate.

Had a lot of issues with the camera at first but we all know that. Since the trip back to Canon the camera is flawless.

This was my first camera of this caliber. The learning curve is very steep. All the pages of my manual are worn thin and dog eared. In the end it is one incredible camera.

Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM

Review Date: Aug 11, 2007 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $3,900.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: Sharp, Fast, Well built. I am amazed that you can hand hold this lens. At first concerned about the weight. If you shoot the 70x200 f/2.8 IS then this is a touch heavier, but sharper.
Cons:
If I were to nit pick it would be the switches. They are easily moved by mistake.

Purchased the f/4 version and loved it. Tried the 300 f/2.8 and sold the f/4 The bokeh that this lens produces is incredible. It is the fastest focusing lens I have ever used.

Do not attach one to your camera. You will buy it .

Canon EOS 1D Mark III

Pros: Canon said it is an improved autofocus system and it is. The camera is comfortable to hold, vertical or horizontal. The LCD consumes a large part of the back of the camera. I can appreciate the size of the screen as I am in my mid sixties, bigger is better for changing eye sight. The view finder is a dream for me coming from a 20D, 5D. I thought it would be difficult to learn to operate. Not true buttons and wheels are easy to use. Already purchased a spare battery, force of habit from previous cameras. The live view is very useful especially macro. If I were a studio photographer it would get plenty of use. The frames per second are incredible. The high ISO settings with lack of noise will be put to the test at night football season. I can see how easy it will be to reach that 300,000 shutter actuations. Ten frames a second add up fast. Bigger media cards are a must.. Have had the camera for a week and am very impressed. Everything works as advertised. My 5D came with a lifetime supply of dust in the viewfinder. No dust anywhere with the 1DMK111 To early to pass judgement on the sensor cleaning feature. Only time will tell. There are many more features with this camera to be explored by me.
Cons:
Picture styles, and print directly from camera are not the way I use a camera.... Others may find these features handy. I would like a MLU button instead.

This is a very refined camera. Features to serve the style of any photographer. Speed to stop action. Portrait, Landscape, Macro, Wedding, you name it this camera can do it...........

BEWARE. IF YOU TRY ONE YOU WILL WANT ONE.

Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM

Review Date: Feb 16, 2006 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $1,250.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: Quality,, fast, sharp, a pleasure to use
Cons:
heavy, but I knew that before buying.

I have been using this lens for three months.
I like this lens in combination with 70x200 f/2.8 Is on a 1.6 crop camera. Solved the heavy lens issue with a good monopod, which I should be using when ever possible anyway.
Waiting to test in on a full frame soon.

Review Date: Dec 12, 2005 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $1,525.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: Fast, Sharp, IS that works, dust protection.
Cons:
Heavy(but we know that) Price

I have been using this lens for five months before posting any comments.
I am very pleased with the operation and photos produced using the lens.

I was very concerned about the weight. Found I could use it all day without getting tired. (I think this is better then lifting at the gym).
