First off, I love L-glass and I own both this superb lens & a 50L. Everything about this lens is great, bokeh, sharpness wide open, color/contrast, flare & CA control. I would have rated this lens a 3/10 before I had sent it to Sigma (twice!!!). So be warned, you will most likely have to send it in for calibration... but let me tell you, the 1 week wait was very well worth the effort. I'll be selling my 50L (UV, my 7th copy I tried that still focus shifts).

Cons:

Needs calibration/Poor QC. Manual focus is no where near the 50L. Build is 9/10 vs perfect 10 for the L.

Sharp wide open, excellent colours and contrast, much improved build quality compared to the mk1, it's now as good as my 35L (minus the CA!), smoother bokeh

I've owned the mk1 version of this lens for almost a year - only shot 783 pictures with it. The week after I received my 24L mk2, I've doubled my previous shot count. I enjoy using this lens. Dare I say it, this lens is the slight better version of my 35L ~ only wider. I have zero complaints regarding this lens. My only nit-pick is the hood is a little big.
I have several A2 prints shot on a 5d2 wide-open-2.0 and it looks great! Well worth the premium over the mk1. Thanks Canon!

If you can get a good copy of this lens, go for it! My first copy (bought used - date code UR) was sent to Canon TWICE to get calibrated and checked. Each time it got better but still not to my standard. The second copy, I bought used as well (date code UU) and that lens back-focused by a 2-3mm at mfd, so I got rid of it. The third copy (UW04), I bought brand new after trying 2 other copies at the store and settled for this one. I tested it against my 35L (my bench mark) and ended up returning it 2 days later.
My fourth one (UV) is excellent in all regards. I bought it new. And now I see why this lens gets rave reviews! It's everything that I've expected and more. Finally!
