Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III

1dsmk3
Review Date: Jun 15, 2008 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $7,999.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: As for all the 1D bodies, incredibly well build, ergonomics and overall design greatly improved form previous versions, a powerhouse in continuos shooting mode when considering the Huge file sizes it produces when shooting RAW, very responsive, produces images like I have never seen before, unless shooting with a $30+ camera, you pay for what you get, I believe that and it is true for this camera.
Cons:
N/A

After shooting for awhile with this new Monster of a camera, I can say that Canon has for sure surpassed all my expectations on this one, I had purchased and used for a while the 1D III, fantastic camera as well (despite the initial issues with the AL Servo) sold it and replaced with the 1Ds III, for the need of FF, and more MP Power for large prints. I shoot mainly Portraiture and Lingerie, but love Landscapes as well. Detail in the images produced by this camera are just stunning, the use of "L" series glass becomes a must on this Beast, my new favorite lens to use on the 1Ds III is the EOS 200mm f/2L IS.

As time permits I will upload pics to be viewed here:

I'm extremely happy with this camera and I would recommend its purchase despite the price, as it is not all that bad when you see what you get!

Canon EF 200mm f/2L IS USM

Review Date: May 23, 2008 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $5,999.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: Incredible Bokeh, Super Sharp, the perfect match for the 1Ds III, impeccable build, 5 Stop IS, relatively short and easy to handheld, not as heavy as I imagined, Very fast AF for the size.
Cons:
NONE!

I got this lens after having felt in Love with the EF 400mm f/2.8L IS, and since it got stolen I had been wanting to re[laced, but decided not to, and almost got a second hand 200 f/1.8L, which is a fantastic lens, but the EF 200mm f/2L IS, is just magnificent, and even so not inexpensive you get what you pay for.

I tucked on assignment with out any try outs first, I know dangerous, but I just had a good filling and wanted to use it so bad, results ... JUS STUNNING!!!

I can't post any of those pics, as they are under NDA regulated contract, but I did tucked a couple out side my window, couldn't go out as it was raining today.

If you have a 30" screen and have it in Portrait mode, you'll see it in its full glory, this was shot handheld true the polarized house window, not to be a test about sharpness, just a quick pic to post.

I racomend this lens with no hesitation, and I know it will make the bag of few of my fellow photographers.

One suggestion, turn the IS off when not in use, during time of setting up your shot, while the lens is on, it consumes the very long life new battery rater fast, but nothing to wary about, just that if you are away in a shoot and only have a spare battery, it is wise to turn it off.

Gitzo G1348 Inter Pro Studex Mk2 Carbon Fiber

G1348
Review Date: Dec 10, 2007 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $629.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: Sturdy for an extremely light Carbon fiber tripod, folds very small, easy to carry, Great configurations possible.
Cons:
None

Purchased this tripod for my Canon 1D body set up and L lenses including the heavy 400 f/2.8 (now stolen, ouch).

Some don't like the twist lock system but I do, it is much easier and safe then others I had in the past, you just have to twist very firmly the upper section first to allow the lower sections to unlock.

As it folds to only 24" makes very easy to take every were, with out compromising the lagage size.

I added the gear column G338 and expended its use greatly, obviously with the geared column fully extended it is not as sturdy.

Gets low and durty when need to, the legs configurations possibilities are great ( geared column removed to reach the lowest point).

I reccomend this tripod to any one.

Sigma 8mm F3.5 EX DG Circular Fisheye

149_small_1_
Review Date: Nov 25, 2007 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $667.00 | Rating: 9

Pros: Good built, Fast AF very fun lens
Cons:

This lens was purchase mostly to test the fun one can have with a distorted fisheye lens, and this Circular fisheye is the one I had chosen to do just that.

I like this lens a lot but it can not find space in my case as I would only use it in such a few situations that again it is not warted keeping.

But by no means this lens is not a keeper, infect I think is a great lens and would esitate in recomending it to any one I know that has a geographical, landscape or just need for a fun lens to shoot with.

I can not give a detailled review as I have use it so little (two times) but I like the images it produced and I would have loaded a simple one I just toucked for a fellow FM user that ask me to post in the buy/sale threads.

Buy it and have fun.

Canon EOS 1D Mark III

1DmkIII
Review Date: Nov 4, 2007 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $4,499.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: Super Fast, Impressive built, Produces Fantastic images, Perfect design.
Cons:
Nothing about this camera is negative, nothing.

This camera is just nothing short of fantastic, I purchased just over a month ago, and now I know I will never again buy an other camera body other then the 1D bodies.

I have not experienced any issues with focus, great, great images this camera can produce, yes I do have a collection of L series glass (the latest) which sure helps but the camera is just a ground braking piece of machine, incredibly well build, better then the predecessors, lighter and with a gummy robberiesh fill to the external grip and bottom, you noticed when for the first time you put down the camera on a glass or marble desk.

I truly now can jump with no esitation in to the purchase of the new 1Ds III as I'm confident I will find the same unsurpassable quality I found in the 1D MARK III.

I do not list all the tectniacal aspects of the products I review as that is done extensively everywere by far more fitted professionals, I stick to give my able opinion, and my opinion is that this camera is just fantastic, buy one with no second guessing.

Canon EOS 5D

5d_586x225_2_
Review Date: Nov 4, 2007 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $2,300.00 | Rating: 9

Pros: Great value, Full Frame.
Cons:
n/a

I purchased this camera, after my 1Dn MARK II was stolen (great camera), the 5D is no doubt a great little camera (compared to the 1D bodies), but at the end did not fulfilled my needs, also I found it a bit small in my hands and did not like much the fill to it with the grip.

I still would recomend this camera to any one in the market for a FF camera as the price can not be overlooked, just a great deal.

I only sold this to my friend because I purchased the new otstanding 1D MARK III.
