Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X 116 PRO DX SD

Review Date: Sep 7, 2008 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $638.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: Sharp as prime. Affordable. Fast.
Minimum focus distance could be closer. Short zoom range.

Sharpest fastest UWA for the APS-C of them all. What more do I need to say?

Canon Speedlite 580EX II

Review Date: May 20, 2007 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $450.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: Fast recycling time, powerful, built quality.

Imported mine from Hong Kong. Even including the P&P and had to pay import tax it was still considerably cheaper faster than getting it from within the UK.

Simply the best Canon flash money can buy.

Canon EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM

Review Date: May 10, 2007 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $700.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: Image quality, f/2.8, IS.
Price, dust resistance.

I bought this lens to replace the kit lens of my 400D. I have not been disappointed.

This is an excellent lens. It is fast and sharp. IS is a godsend at low light conditions where a flash is not appropriate.

The build quality exceeded my expectation of a non L lens. It feels sturdy and well built. Although I have found some dust behind the frond element as it is not dust or humidity proof.

I love it!

Canon EOS Rebel XTi (400D)

Review Date: May 10, 2007 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $600.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: Price, usability, dust removal system.
For the price? Nothing at all.

I decided to get into photography after spending a 3 week long holiday in South Africa with a bunch of friends. Two of whom are professional photographers. After using one of them's Canon EOS 5D consistently, I was hooked.

As soon as I was home I ordered this camera, the EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM lens and the the BG-E3 grip. So far I have not been disappointed.

I take all my images in RAW and I was surprised by the quality of the images it produces. This camera should last me until when I can afford a full frame (one day).

The only problem I've had with it so far is that I was unable to get the Dust Delete Data function to work.

PS phronq: Menu 3rd tab -> LCD auto off -> Enable

In conclusion, the Canon EOS 400D is a fantastic entry level D-SLR. Highly recommended.
