Zeiss 100mm f/2 Makro-Planar T*

100mm
Review Date: Oct 27, 2011 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 10

Pros: Outstanding Image Quality. If you are looking for a Zeiss lens that delivers the 3D look this one provides it in buckets.Great color, sharpness WO and the best bokeh of any lens that i have ever used.
Cons:
Vignetting at f2 but mostly gone by f2.2/ and of course the price. But when you consider that this lens can do all types of shooting very well, has very few weaknesses and was made to last a very long time at least the price is somewhat justified.

Best lens that i have ever used. This lens can do it all.
-Great portrait lens.
-Outstanding Landscape lens
-Superb Macro albeit @ 1.2( good for most all occasions)

Canon EF 20-35mm f/2.8L

Review Date: Nov 21, 2010 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 9

Pros: size, very compact.Build Quality.Sharp WO.Typical L color and contrast.Price
Cons:
MFD is a bit longer than i would like

-Focus was quick and accurate.Although being an older lens it does not have USM- so you hear it focus just a bit, not noisy just not USM
-Very sharp in the center WO
-Typical L color and contrast
-For some reason the exif for the 20mm shots says 22mm in DPP, but when i view it in ptlens it shows 20mm Not sure why this is happening
-There is some pin cushion distortion WO on the wide end not extreme but noticeable in some situations
-there is also vignetting as well when shooting WO
-All in all a definite keeper, its the widest lens that i have had on my 5D and should be plenty wide for most situations i encounter
-I think it can be used for weddings esp if i just keep it at 35mm focal length
-MFD is a little longer than i would like but definitely not a deal breaker

Tamron 28-75MM F/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF)

Pros: Very sharp from 2.8 on/ Price /
Cons:
Hunts some in low light and you can hear it focus more so than the Canon USM

Got this lens in a trade for my 17-40L.I now feel that i have used it enough to write a review.Image quality is very good in terms of sharpness it is razor sharp even at 2.8.I have had the Canon 28-70L and in terms of sharpness this lens is equal. It does hunt a bit in low light and you can hear the motor focus more so than the Canon lenses. The 28-70L was super quiet and super fast focusing.Build quality is good but for the money this lens is a real keeper.Below is a link to a pic that i took with my 1D and this lens Settings were f3.2 1/320 at 75mm

Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM

Pros: All that the others have said i agree with. Would just like to add, when this lens is on your camera it is very inconspicuous, it draws very little attention to you or your camera.
Cons:
None at this time

I agree with all the other positives that have been mentioned about this lens.I would just like to add that i have had my DSLR(10D) for just a little over 2 years now.I started with the 28-135 IS, the 75-300 IS the famed 28-70L the 200 Mark II(very good lens) and also the 17-40L(Also a very nice lens).I am the happiest with my pictures from my 10D once i put the 50 f1.4 on it.The pictures that now come out of my camera are amazing. The focus is spot on.And my copy is sharp from 1.4 on, at about 2.0 its excellent and after that it just gets ridiculously sharp.Colors are very good.Just have to tweak the contrast a bit for personal taste.

Pros:
Cons:

Would like to add to my previous comments about this lens.I took it to a social event and used it to take snap shots of people and it did a great job.Default settings in camera were 1/60 and f4 and all the pics were extremely sharp with no distortion. Many wonder how this shot does with people.Let me just say it does a great job!!

Pros: Contrast very good, Colors rendered very good esp vibrant in skies
Cons:
None i can think of at this time

It was hard at first for me to get a good read on this lens.If shooting in raw one must always remember that all pictures taken in raw require sharpening and other adjustments.I think some of the 'soft' comments or 'not sharp enough' comments that i have read hear and on other review sites, might come from some shooting in raw and expecting the pics to be perfect right out of the camera. With a few minor adjustments in DPP the pictures that i took were excellent!! Looking forward to taking this lens with me to NYC and take some bridge and building pics i'm sure that i will be thrilled with the results.Highly Recommended
