I've only just bought myself a 350D and so my experience with lenses are limited to this and the stock 18-55mm although I have test driven various lenses... and from the small experience i've had with the Canon 17-40L, i think the L lens is sharper but I wouldn't swap. Why? because i'll miss out on the 10-16mm range!
