Would be the perfect camera if it had the 5D mkII high-ISO abilities.

I've shot film since the mid-70's (Nikon F2) and got into digital SLR's in 2005 with the Canon 20D. Since then I've had the 30D, 40D, 50D and now 7D. I'm primarily a sports photographer, and the focus system is as good or better than the 1D mkIII I rented before buying the 7D. That, combined with the 8fps shooting speed makes this an unbelievable camera for the money.

I think some people are confusing this lens with the newer 50mm 1.8 mkII ("Negatives: cheap build, plastic mount" )... this review thread is about the older metal-mount lens with the distance scale window. I agree with the poster who said: "there is something historically classic about owning a fast 50mm! " You can't go wrong with this lens.
