Sigma Electronic Flash EF 500 DG Super

Review Date: Aug 10, 2006 Recommend? no | Price paid: $320.00 | Rating: 2

Pros: Cheap, powerful
Sigma's poor QC

My DG Super exposes under cca. 2EV in TTL mode. So I need to use it with at least +2.0EV FEC, or in Manual mode.
You can get a Canon 430 EX or a used 550EX for about a same price... Sad
I use it with a 350D, so the ugly plastic body is no problem...

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II

Review Date: Dec 28, 2005 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $125.00 | Rating: 9

Pros: F1.8, price, weight (because it's plastic)
build quality (too plastiky), Focus ring,

This is a must! Very sharp (even at F1.8!), very fast. I use it for indoor & portrait photography.
Yes, i paid 125$ for it... (the good old 25% hungarian VAT and other taxes @ duties are included... :-L )

Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM

Review Date: Dec 28, 2005 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $760.00 | Rating: 9

Pros: IS, USM, Very sharp
front rotates, no lens hood and/or lens bag inlcuded (for 760$...)

This is my first IS lens. How can I live w/o IS before? ;-) I can take SHARP pictures @300mm with 1/10s, even 0.3s!!!
It's very imposing.

Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 EX DC

Review Date: Dec 28, 2005 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $580.00 | Rating: 9

Pros: Constant F2.8, fast& quiet AF, lightweight, razor sharp.
Little soft @ F2.8, AF not 100% reliable

I replaced the kit lens (EF-S 18-55mm) with this baby. It's far better! Razor sharp at the corners too! The AF is fast & quiet as the AF system of my Canon 70-300 IS USM! However, it's not USM Smile Unfortunately the AF is less reliable in low light and/or at homogeneous surfaces compared to my another lenses. ---> switch to MF in these situations.
Lens bag & hood included!
The zoom ring is smooth, good "quality feeling".
