Pros: Good range for a zoom, VR useful in low light.
Cons:
Lens creep

I waited for months for this lens. When I did finally get it I took it on a Caribbean sailing charter. The creep on this lens was so bad that it required two hands to shoot @ anything more than 25- 30 degrees from level, up or down. This lens would slide to full extension in 2 seconds when pointed down and to fully retracted in the same amount of time when aimed up. I missed a lot of shots during the cruise for this reason. I was unable to get a WA shot of the boat deck after climbing to the top of the mast- held the mast with one hand and the lens went to full extension as soon as I pointed it down- extremely disappointing.

I took it to the Nikon service center and got it back 2 weeks later with a note saying there was nothing wrong, it was within tolerance! If this is Nikon quality tolerance, I want nothing to do with it. I have examined several others - new and used since then and none of them had anywhere near the creep that mine does.

Customer service at it's best.
