Sigma 12-24mm f4.5-5.6 EX DG Aspherical HSM

Review Date: Dec 16, 2007 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $800.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: I love this lens! Originally I bought it to get the wide angle to compliment the other lenses I have. But shooting landscapes and old buildings I found myself carrying around a lot of heavy glass and not using them. The colors a great sharpness awesome on top you get dramatic effect of perspective. I didn't even break out the macro as this lens's minimum distance is very close and sharp. There is no dark corners on the my 5D. Can't wait to take it out on my next trip its seems to be replacing my 17-40L.

Pros: Accept no substitutions, Outstanding colour, great low-light ability, depth and contrast, makes even consumer lenses look good
Better customer support

As finicky as a Ferrari but well worth the trouble. Once you learn to handle its features and clean the senser its a great camera. I learned the hard way that brushes drag oil onto the senser. Your much better off with a controlled cleaning tool to remove hard to get to crud.

Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM

Pros: Colour, Contrast, range, wieght, 5D compatibility, Image stablized
soft on far away objects, no boken

I consider this a very underrated lens or maybe I got a good copy anyway after being spoilt by this lens I thought it could only get better purchasing a bunch of L series lenses to replace it. I shoot a for the local paper and although the new L lenses are good (17-40 and 70-200is) I keep coming back to the 28-135. My copy is so sharp and contrast y that I have to try and pull it out of focus just enough as to not pick-up all the defects of the subjects. The colours seem to be richer than my other lenses and this is the only lens that has produce constant cover shots. I've tried it on cropped sensor cameras and the range is different and it doesn't perform as well, I would recommend this lens for anyone with a full frame camera.

Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM

Pros: Wide angle, great colour and contrast, good build, works well with my 5D with no vignetting.

This is my fun lens for scenery architecture and tight spaces. I was using it for an all around lens at events but had to get too close to people which freaks them a little. 40mm is just not long enough, I'm finding most of the people shots around 60 to 70mm for the full frame camera. I bought this lens because of the impressive postings of outdoor landscapes and at this it excels getting a lot of colour and a wider vistas. Only at the very edge of the frames will you see some barreling and only noticeable with tall thin objects like trees. For the price this lens is awesome and might be a better walk around lens on a crop frame camera.
