Pros: Lenses is bright and produces good contrast sharp but for the far corner on full frame. As
Cons:
Color is shifted a little from what a Nikon lenses produces, Greens seems more pronounced.

I just wanted say after reading the reviews from the past people, they are old reviews and mostly Canon camera mounts, I have used this lenses on my past D100 up thru my D700 and the only reason I selling it now is that I broke down and bought a 14-24 and want to buy the 24-70. The newer Canons focus much better now you should this a try if you get a chance it can be a good bargain in disguise for like was for me.

Pros: Lightweight, Fullframe capable, unbelievably sharp for the price ($98 used), Saturation is great, Color repro matchs newer Nikon lenses.
Cons:
Out of Production, Plastic Mount

I bought this lens just a gap lens until I got my other lenses for full frame when I first purchase my D700. I really had no intentions of this lens staying my collectin for very long. It has however proved it's worth to me as well performing, lightweight walkaround lens with a nice range and sharp picture capacities. It is not perfect in the corners put I know of few real photographer that put their main subject in the corners. To travel light on a recent vacation I took my D700, 14 f2.8, this lens and an SB-600 as the entire kit and did not miss a shot. Only this I wish is that it had the metal mount of 'D' version... Love this lens.....

Pros: The build on this lens is excellent. It is up to Nikons Standard of its better lens quality.
Cons:
If any negatives are to found I would only mention it is a little slow focusing. as for all the other items people mention I do not know if they are just bunch of Lemmings or there is a quality control issue in this lens but mine is a good version.

As for the statement for the lense being soft and not sharp, I can tak most of my Nikon lenses other than my 14-24 and magnify the corners and softness at wide open apertures. no lens pperforms will there normally. this lens very acceptably even there for my taste. The VR feature is a big help in capturing those picture in the early morning and the early evening as the light is not as it should be to get the speed to shot as fast as shutter as speed as we would like. all and all on a full frame camera like my D700 I really like this lens as my main walkabout lens. I am currently trying a 28-200G lens also for full light times.
