Pros:

Sharp, cheap, much better built than mark II. makes night shooting possible. super nice focal lenght for digital SLR. Very light and little, easy to bring along.

Not so many around and only second hand. Usuall more expensive than a new mark II

I formerly used a Canon 300d: the 30d is WAY better in all aspects. I even tried a 350d and the built is much much better for the 30d.
I could compare it with a 20d (almost the same, but I enjoy a lot the bigger screen).
Finally, I compared it with a 20Da: the noise of this last one is incredibly lower (shooting at 1600 with the 20Da is somewhat similar to the 400 iso of the 30d). too bad for the little screen.
