This is one great lens !
It is sharper than my 70-200 2.8 IS - with superb colors and contrast. At this price, the lens is a bargain.
I cannot recommend this lens enough: It is almost a must-have !!

This is a very special product ! The 5D is an incredible camera; full frame - at a very reasonable price.
I had Olympus E1 and Nikon D200. The D200 was nothing but a disappointment, E1 a really nice camera. But with 5D it all came together.
The image quality is oustanding; the details in the shaddows and highlights - the dynamic range. The very low noise ...
The controls; well, maybe they could have had a better layout - but that is totally over-powered by the image quality ! I am a very happy camera-owner these days !

I like the untraditional white design !
The image quality: Razer sharp !
The IS is great; I can leave my tripod at home more often - and f2.8 certainly also helps !
Those complaining about the price; if you want to travel first class - you have to pay for it ! There's no free lunch ... I believe I'm going to have this lense for years to come; and it might be cheaper to buy 1 quality lense, than buying new lenses yearly ?
I've read several places that it is so heavy. Well, it wasn't that heavy ...
So: Just do it - get one !

Too much noise already at ISO (560 and) 800.

I bought my D200 in september - and sold it yesterday; got a Canon 5D today.
For me, the D200 was a disappointment. I used Olympus E1 before; and maybe I didn't realize what a great camera E1 is - because I've been missing it all the time ...
First: The noise level is too high ! Already at ISO 560 it started to bother me. At ISO 800 I had to use Noiseware. (The E1 was even worse; but that's another story ...).
Second: I use Capture One Pro as raw converter; and getting the images sharp, I had to go all the way to 400 (max) in sharpness. At lower sharpness levels the pictures simply came out not sharp enough. I tried with several lenses - and it didn't change.
I simply don't understand all the postive reviews the D200 gets. It makes me think that reviewers try to avoid Canon getting monopoly ...
If you need 5 fps and don't need higher ISO than 400; then D200 will do the trick.
Otherwise; take a serious look at the noise levels before you buy it !!
