Pros: LCD, build quality, image quality, live view
Cons:
None

I had been reading all of the negative reviews of this camera, and they almost compelled me not to purchase it. I purchased it while on vacation and have not regretted it for one moment. There are a lot of folks on here that shoot with the 1D series bodies or the 5D or 5DMKII and attempt to compare the 50D to these bodies. Comparing the high ISO performance of this camera to that of a 1D body or even a 5DMkII is a apples to oranges comparison. I upgraded from a 20D, so this was a substantial upgrade for me. I do agree (after playing with a friends 40D) that this is not too far a departure from the 40D. I have to be honest, I don't pixel peep, I take pictures. I had the fortune to use the camera for the first time in St. Maarten. I have to say the quality and sharpness is breathtaking (and yes, I'm shooting with L glass). After shooting all day, I got to play with the features like the customizable menu. This allows me to create a menu page with the options that I use most. I also like being able to display the information on the top display on the LCD and change the options as needed. I don't know why folks are complaining about the number of focus points. I have not had any problems getting great shots with only nine. If you need more focus points and better high ISO performance, then spring for one of the more expensive bodies. For those of us who just like to take pics and have fun, this is a great addition to the Canon lineup.

Pros: Cost, image quality, build quality.

I used this lens on my Canon 20D and now use it on my 50D (both 1.6 crop bodies) as my walk around lens. It is just a tad soft at f4, but is razor sharp when stopped down. Some complain about the lack of wide aperature or IS. Adding these features would add to the cost of the lens. As it is, the price point is good. The color saturation is excellent. I have used this lens for everything from product photography to shooting on vacation.
