Pros:

Sharp, Good AF, build quality is good
|
|
Cons:
|
Dust magnet, vignetting @ 18mm wide open
|
|

This is a good walkaround lense. The 70mm gives it a noticeable advantage over other kit lenses.
At 70 mm wide open the bokeh is pleasant and you can make good portraits.
Not fast enough for low light condition.
The moustache distortion @ 18 mm is weird and hard to correct.
The copy I have, survived a 1.5 meter fall on the pavement. It is still sharp.

I have the original 1986 edition of this lense, made in Japan. The focusing ring is awfull, but this lens works like a charm !
It is a good portrait lens on a DX format.

This lens is made in Japan. The quality of the build is very good. The QC is higher and it is hard I think to have a bad copy of this lens.
That's a lens you can order on internet, it is a sure value.
It is in my view the best way to have a sharp fast standard equivalent lens on a DX sensor.
The minimal focusing distance is about 20 cm.
Go for it, it is a gem !

The first copy was bad, WB changes in the same condition (tripod) indoor
|

The first copy I tried was bad. The upper right corner was out of focus (Thanks to this forum, I was warned).
The second one was sharp.
One question. Do you experience WB changes in Auto WB when you shoot in the same conditions ?
