The only thing I can think of is it's propensity to lens flair, which can be irritating if you don't pay attention to what you're shooting and it's fairly slow. 4.5-5.6 is sorta high in the aperture range.
This lens is just special. The distortion is totally acceptable unless you're using a FF camera like the 5D or 1Ds, but on a FOVCF or crop sensor camera, it's just perfect. I can't say enough about it, so I'm going to let a few of my photos taken with the Sigma do all the talking.

Pros:
Color, incredible sharpness, quick AF, small and light on camera.
Cons:
Hunts like hell in low light.
This was the very first lens I used when getting into the world of DSLR. At first I struggled with the lens and the crop factor on my 20D. But after using some other lenses and realizing what I had I realized I had a very special lens. It'll focus in close, almost macro close. It's light on the camera body and I almost always get great results with it. If I don't, it's usually my fault. I'd recommend this lens to ANYONE.
