Nikon SB-600 AF Speedlight

Review Date: May 3, 2007 Recommend? yes | Price paid: Not Indicated | Rating: 6

Pros: Small, Creative Lighting System, Price, compatible with high speed synch
No manually variable power setting Cannot be use as a commander

I love my SB-600. I also have a couple Sigma 50 DG Super flashes. (Which I've found to be at least as tough as the 600). The one time I dropped my 600 on a flat surface it went back to Nikon for repair. I've dropped my Sigmas a couple of times as well. In both cases, I simply collected the batteries, which had burst from their chamber, slid them back in, and the flashes continued to perform flawlessly.

One important feature (used rarely) missing on the 600 that is present on both the 800 as well as the Sigma 500 is manually variable flash power. If you want really high speed flash to stop action on very fast things (like hummingbird wings) you need to be able to set the variable power. For everything else, I love my light, little 600.
