Pros: very Sharp, Great contrast and colour ,lightweight ,IS
Cons:
very expensive !!

Hi All
I recently purchased the 100mm L macro and the new 70-300L ..from the moment i saw the first downloaded pics i knew something wasn't quite right with the 100mmm Macro as the 70-300L at 100mm outperformed the macro lens at its min focus distance the 70-300L was stunningly sharp !! so after futher testing i returned the 100mm macro as it was very slightly soft .The second 100mm macro turned up a week ago... i now have the chrisp sharpness i was expecting a stunning lens.. out of 6 L lens i have bought this was the first bad copy ive had (tested on a 50D and 5d2 same results on both AF or MF) both these lens exhibit very similar images ,both stunningly sharp with great contrast and colour,
if you like the images from the 100mm L macro you will love the images from the new 70-300 F4-5.6 L they are the same all the way to 300mm and wide open too ..go buy it !!

Pros: A very sharp lens corner to corner good contrast and colour IQ IS EXCELLENT (color to my USA mates !!) Good IS,extremely useful 24-136 mm range
Cons:
none !

Hi
I was using a 17-40L as the standard lens on a 50D that my wife uses ( and i use when i want a crop camera for 1.6x macro or 640mm with the 400 5.6L) ..i use a 5d2 and sometimes i needed the 17-40 for the 5d2 so i bought my wife the 15-85 IS..WOW what a great sharp lens i was very surprised at how good it was on the 50D it outperformed the 17-40L !
it is sharper with good color and contrast.. i was not expecting it to be that good..Her keeper rate has gone up dramatically due to IS as she doesn't always keep her eye on the shutter speed !! A highly recommended Lens

PS the 17-40 L performs extremely well on my 5d2
regards Alan

Pros: stunning sharpness ,high contrast and great colour in other words IQ is suburb from wide open too !!
Cons:
no tripod collar provided

I consider this 70-300L an upgrade to my excellent 70-200F4 L i owned !! i have now sold it along with my EF 2 1.4xT/C
The lens has a real "wow and pop" factor i couldn't be happier with it .It performs equally well on my 5d2 as well as my 50D both sharp as a tack even at 300 or 480 mm ,i'm sure the combination of its high sharpness ,contrast and colour is whst gives it that "wow and pop factor"...anyone considering this lens..just go out and buy it you won't regret it..regards Alan
