Canon EF 135mm f/2L USM

Review Date: Nov 24, 2006 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $900.00 | Rating: 10

Pros: performance wide open is amazing, price, lightning fast and dead-on focus, built like a tank
Cons:
none whatsoever.

believe the hype about this lens. its performace wide open is outstanding. bokeh is heavenly. incredibly sharp. i am especially impressed with the autofocus, which is the fastest of any canon lens i've owned and DEAD ON. highly recommended even if you already own the 70-200mmL...

Pros: amazing wide angle images, nice lighter weight for a walk around lens, 2.8 is very nice.
Cons:
if you aren't single now, you will be after you buy it.

i agonized between this lens and the 17-40. i decided to take the hit and go for the 16-35. now i'm glad i did, as the extra f-stop has already come in real handy. don't believe any of the negative hype about this lens - yes it is slightly soft in the corners, but most wide angle lenses are. other than that this thing is razor sharp at all focal lengths and apertures (on an XTi/400D). an amazing lens in every respect, but the price will give you a guilty conscience.

Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM

Review Date: Nov 5, 2006 Recommend? yes | Price paid: $1,200.00 | Rating: 9

Pros: probably the best walk around lens money can buy
Cons:
heavy, expensive, live in constant fear of it being stolen, hood scares little kids

there isn't much more i can say that hasn't already been said. 2.8 comes in very hand when i need it. awesome walk around lens. if you put the work into your images this lens will floor you with the results.

it will also motivate you to start working out so your neck and shoulders can support the load.

Pros: PRICE! fairly lightweight, outstanding image quality, smokin' fast autofocus
Cons:
nothing major.

at 650 crackers you can't beat this L lens. the image quality is incredible, and the bokeh is especially nice. i've found the fast autofocus makes this a killer airshow glass. highly recommended!
