Pros:

Sharp, fast lens. Equivalent of 35 mm lens when used on D-60, 10D. Quite useful wide open, but really shines at about f 2.8. No problems with slow focus.

Cons:
|
Expensive. Fixed focal length limits flexibility as compared to 16-35mm zoom.

I bought this expensive lens to use for low light work at an equivalent focal length of 35 mm (D60). It has always been a consistent performer. As with almost all fast lenses (excluding Noctilux) best performance is several stops above wide open. However, this lens has delivered the goods many times in very low light situations at f 1.4.

Imagequality is very good, except for the corners at aperture 1,4. The autofocus is slow for a USM-lens. It glides into focus, where other USM-lenses snaps into focus. No doubt it's a good lens, but if you don't need aperture 1,4 go for the 2,8 version. This lens i much too expensive for what you get. I sold mine to get the 16-35mm.

I've only just acquired this lens so I haven't posted a rating yet. Initial impressions are solid, bright, professional quality lens. I have the 35mm 1.4 as well and if it measures up to that I will be well pleased. Fuller review after more use
