Specifications:
Professional wide-angle lens with an ultra-large maximum aperture of f/1.4. This is the first EF lens to employ both a replicated aspherical lens element to suppress distortion and spherical aberration, and a UD lens element to correct lateral chromatic aberration. Thanks to the floating construction, excellent corner-to-corner delineation is attained from 10 in. (25 cm) to infinity.

Pros: Terrific lens usable in many different light applications. Well made and very rugged.
Cons:
Price

Equivalent to a 35mm on D 60 but looking forward to use on D 1"S.

Pros: Sharp, fast lens. Equivalent of 35 mm lens when used on D-60, 10D. Quite useful wide open, but really shines at about f 2.8. No problems with slow focus.
Cons:
Expensive. Fixed focal length limits flexibility as compared to 16-35mm zoom.

I bought this expensive lens to use for low light work at an equivalent focal length of 35 mm (D60). It has always been a consistent performer. As with almost all fast lenses (excluding Noctilux) best performance is several stops above wide open. However, this lens has delivered the goods many times in very low light situations at f 1.4.

Pros: Very large aperture, Build quality, Sharp and crisp pictures
Cons:
Price, Autofocus

Imagequality is very good, except for the corners at aperture 1,4. The autofocus is slow for a USM-lens. It glides into focus, where other USM-lenses snaps into focus. No doubt it's a good lens, but if you don't need aperture 1,4 go for the 2,8 version. This lens i much too expensive for what you get. I sold mine to get the 16-35mm.

Pros: Relatively compact given the f1.4. Bright image
Cons:
Unknown yet

I've only just acquired this lens so I haven't posted a rating yet. Initial impressions are solid, bright, professional quality lens. I have the 35mm 1.4 as well and if it measures up to that I will be well pleased. Fuller review after more use
