Approximately 1 / 2-stop less powerful than 550EX

Pros:	Smaller than 550 monster High-speed sync Works as with wireless system (not a transmitter 550 only or ste), Powerful enough Can dial in flash ex. compensation on camera Covers to 24mm
Cons:	Only one: no external power supply outlet like on 550ex. I'd like it plug in a Dynalite Battery pack for faster recycle every once in a while.

Get it. It is half the price of the 550. Lacks the sender wireless fuction (it receives) and external power supply hook-up for super faster recycling.

Only two weakness vs. 550 that cost many times twice as much and is twice as heavy and large it seems.

Pros:	Good FIll flash, ETT-L works well on both D-30 and 1D, will work quite adeqyuately as a slave to a 550EX.
Cons:	A little underpowered, and very slow to recharge after firing. Will generate red eye, even with reduction, unless taken off camera.

I am still a happy owner of a 420EX, though it now has been relagated as a slave for extra light. It still is a world better than any built in flash, and works mostly good as long as the area is relatively confined. It also works quite well as an additional light source in a slaved configuration.
