Pros: 18-135IS-STM is the next generation of this lens. It costs about $550 and is an amazingly fast and sharp lens. It has an equivalence of 24mm to 200mm. It is remarkably better than the first generation, which is not STM. This is a great all around lens and is rarely off my 7D. Although it is a not an "L" lens, and is mostly plastic, it performs like an L lens - except for the following issues which are of minor concern.
Cons:
The manual focus does not work at all. When it "sleeps" it takes a second or so to wake up and focus sharply again.

For the price of this lens, I would highly recommend it to anyone with a crop sensor camera.

Pros: Good start lens, and spans an area you want to be happy for the beginner
Cons:
It is not the sharpest lens, and then See, the glass set up in a plastic housing, so it feels a little cheap, as it is after all

To beginner, are this lens good to have on your camera because it has a relatively large zoom
