Description: 17th of March 2012 at 03:09am. About 150-160 degrees of view - f/4.5, 15 seconds, iso 1250, 17mm.

We are getting closer to the peak of solar activity that loops in 11 year cycles. So next few years should be good. I captured some of the auroras caused by the two powerful solar storms in this winter. I wanted to take some timelapse videos, but all storms were so big that my 17mm lens would have been too narrow for capturing all. And of course, it's way more fun to be there and shoot where the best auroras are at the moment Smile!
Aurora shooting ended at the end of march, because nights got too light.

Harri, This is the most fantastic image of an aurora! It's not only the size and the shape of the aurora, but also the the trees silhouettes as compositional elements that make the image so attractive.

As I said it should be shown moving as Time Laps photo or video. Both you can show as a member on Google+.

Wonderful, Harry. It's only through your eyes that I get to see such grand stuff as this.

Many, many thanks for your enormous feedback fellas. I shooted quite long (until 4am) and had enough time to plan and capture these as panoramas too.

A beauty, Harri! The tree in the foreground seems to be punching a hole in the light show...like it has it's own aura.

Thanks James! I wanted to include something as compositional element in this.
