#1- Two girls in farmland a few miles from Giza.
#2- The oldest of the pyramids- at Sakkarah.
#3- Young Egyptian couple at the Great Pyramid at Giza.
Scanned from slides.

Love the first one Charlie, the hardship is really illustrated well and the pyramid in the background is perfect.

Yes, the first one really shines. The composition with the pyramid in the background has photojournalistic property galore. And despite any economic situtation, I can't help but notice the headdress the girl on the left is wearing. I'm not implying it's costly, but I'll bet it's quite colorful and demonstrates a certain pride.
That third shot is just good old fun stuff. Whenever I see you shots like the last one, I always wonder where the couple is today, and how their lives progressed as a couple and as individuals. We can't know, but it always crosses my mind.

These were just girls in a farming community. I was in a slow-moving bus, shooting out an open window. Not sure about the expressions- maybe just squinting because of the brightness of the day.
Here's the color version- Tim, I agree about the color aspects.

I love that first one Charlie. The pyramid in the background really brings it together. It works much better in b&w imo.

I like the first one a lot. The teeth of the girl on the right are amazing

Not smiles, gas pains I too like the first shot. I'm pleased you posted the color shot here, as I would have despaired over the black and white "farmland".

Thanks, Allan, Lazlo and Tim ONeill.
This being a B&W forum, it's natural that most viewers would prefer B&W over color much if not most of the time.
I flap around between the two mostly, although I do have definite ideas about some subjects.
I agree that without color the "farmland" looks pretty much as though they're growing weeds. The irrigated sections of the Nile River Valley are good, rich farmland, although the building of Aswan Dam will eventually kill the soil because it stopped the annual flooding by the river. A mixed blessing, to be sure.
