Ancient Bristlecone Pine at 10,000 ft. elev. in the White Mountains, Inyo National Forest, California. Sierra Nevada Range in the background. Thanks for looking.

Thanks, Michael, and glad you like the image. The habitat for those trees is austere and special.

Nice one Bob - it's interesting to see the nuances of the colors in the twisted trunks of these old snags.

Nice comp in this image.

Hi Alan,

Many thanks and glad you like the image. Indeed, there's no end to compositions made from just one of those trees.

Hi Bob,
This one really conveys the essence of a great area. You have captured a tremendous range of tonal values. Congrats on a super job.

Bob, nicely captured. A great area for photography, for sure.

On a more mundane subject, I've seen that type of frame around the image used by several people on this forum. What software or plugin are you using to generate it?

Mort.

Really good work, Bob. Love the big depth into the bg, and the light on the old patriarch makes for a lovely portrait.

The frame which is among others that are available for images posted in the Fred Miranda forums. The frame is applied after the image is uploaded to the website forum.

Hi Jim, Whayne & Barry,

Many thanks to all and glad you like the image. I try to visit Bristlecones every May and attempt to see and capture different comps of those photogenic trees. The road is not always open and free of snow then, but this year it was.

My first visit to the Schulman Grove was in late fall, 1962, and the Forest Service was just starting to improve access and develop interpretation.

Do we feed off each other on these forums, I wonder? It seems more and more people are going bristlecone crazy lately.

Very nice shot! Nice soft lighting. Nice comp. What can I say? Nice job.

Hi Mitchell and Ed,

Thanks very much for your kind comments and glad you like the image. Getting the Sierra in the background was somewhat of a challenge but enjoyable.
