Not necessarily if you don't translate distracting with visible detail in the background. It is more about the transitions of the blur discs rather than the absolute amount of blur. Stopping down can sometimes even improve that, a lot of 50/1.4 show rather heavy rings around the blur discs wide open which disappear stopped down.

i am still trying to get a feel for the canon FL 55mm f/1.2's bokeh. same basic shots at f/1.2, f/2, and f/4:

some flower color lost at f/1.2 since i didn't have an ND filter and had to recover some blown highlights.

I am rather pleased with this lenses blur attributes. It's not exactly the most amazing lens, but it's one of the creamier ones I own.

The much maligned C/Y 85 f/1.4 @ f/1.7. My copy is sharp just a 1/2 a stop down from wide open and the bokeh in these shots is very pleasing to my eyes
