Hi Chad....

Glad you like. I had sand in many different places after this day on the beach - - - I'll leave it at that.

Nice work, Lil! These guys are not easy to get perfect shots of--they move so fast!
I really like the mood set by #7.

Thanks Anthony,

it went more like, I'm down on my stomach in the sand or on my knees. I was the tripod or we were using the cheapo tripod I'd brought along on it's lowest setting.

Glad you enjoy & have fun in Iowa - - hope you get some great shots while you're there...

Thanks for taking time out while out of town to take a peek & commenting...

Hi Bonnie,

at first I had to get a feel for them. Once we got used to each other, things started working out. But these guys are not easy to shoot - - they're on the move most of the time & then things go fast.

I was lucky to get some when they took a break etc.

Glad you enjoyed.

Ah... a gal that thinks like me... you have to get down in the mud to get the good ones

Lil, this is a stellar series. I can't begin to choose... well, maybe I'm a bit partial to #5... ... but so many very nice shots.

You get such great results out of your D300... I just might have to send mine in for a tuneup...

Nice work Lil.

I can't tell you enough how perfectly timed this response came. I'm in a bit of a depression over some "landscape"-like shots I've taken. I like them for a first serious attempt. But I've sent them off to two photographers I respect & both seem to not want to comment. So that tells me I'm totally off the mark. I did them as a location scout with the 18-200VR & just experiments in angles & choices of subjects. Both photographers are quiet. :-(

Guess I should just stick to wildlife. But I do want to shoot some nice park locations as well. Landscapes are next to impossible in Los Angeles after all & I'm not into street photography...... (heavy sigh)

As for down in the mud - you bet! Looking down at my subject just is not my thing. Be it mud, horrid dirt, sand etc. but I seem to draw a line with water.

Your words are very sweet. I'm just trying to get better so I can keep up with the forum. Sometimes things are just right & things fall into place.

Yours seem to be working just fine - - your shots are amazing....

Thanks for looking & commenting Terry & your comment came just when I needed it.

Not to worry Lil... cheer up and just think about this.

I have those kind of days. I think we all do. Some times things just don't fall into place. That is when you put the cameras in the bag, call one of your good friends and go out for a nice lunch ... tomorrow is another day!

Be patient with yourself gal... and remember

If it was that easy to do, everybody would be doing it...

Thanks Terry - - wide words.

I'm going to take the boys (the horses) out for a ride for the first time in weeks. Destined finally got new shoes yesterday. My farrier had to have surgery twice & I had a super hard time getting another one out to shoe him. Finally after three weeks I got him shod yesterday. So I'm going to take the boys on the trail for a bit.

That should make me feel a bit better.

Thanks for caring

Lil

Lil, I know that having fun can be a wonderful distraction from life's minor (or even major) annoyances. While having fun may not cure a bad headache, I think that it is definitely theraputic. It looks to me like you took a large dose of "happy distraction therapy" on this day. I will gladly write you a prescription for "3 hours of having fun daily" if the end result is pictures like these, that the rest of us get to enjoy. It really does look like you and your gymnasium friend had a great time (it shows in the pictures).

I have been considering this lens as a possible replacement for my EF 100-400 (which I am using less and less, these days). In your hands, at least, the Tamron has performed very well. I'm sure your friend will make good use of your lens and, perhaps someday, post a few photos of her own (taken with the Tamron) here on FM!

Dave - -

these are such sweet words, especially on a day I'm a little down. Which I'm currently trying to eliminate with some chocolate & the antics of two baby squirrels in my tree. Which I'm working on a series of...

Boy do I wish I could spend three hours each day not thinking about anything.... But alas, life does not offer me that opportunity. I have things to do. Horses to ride. Pets to feed & squirrels to tame. Mom now takes peanuts out of my hands handed to her & one of the baby's came within an inch just now....

But I'll take your prescription any day. Mimmi & I had a wonderful time. So much fun & time went far too fast.

I can't advise too well on the comparison of the 100-400 Canon L to the 200-500 Tamron. If it's the reach issue, be prepared the Tamron gets long. How's the quality.... Well, I've posted a lot of shots here from it. I just got better & better with that lens. Mind you, I preferred to work with it on a tripod. I prefer tripod work.

I will tell Mimmi to practice as we'll all be waiting for her to post from Stockholm & especially from when she goes & photographs the polar bears next year.

Thanks Dave

Lil

Wow Lil, Doug Bentlage has coyote, deer and hawks coming into his yard to have their picture taken and you actually have them (little critters, i.e. squirrels) eating out of your hand!..........I must be doing something wrong.

Please tell Mimmi that we folks, here on FM's N&W forum, look forward to seeing some posts from her soon.

I have yet to post a single photo, myself (never really considered my efforts worthy), but I feel the time is coming soon. More than anything, I could use the C&C.

Here's to 3 hours of fun, daily!

Dave,

Hawks I have landing in my trees, & lots of little birds as well. Coyotes I can do without on the property.... I'd worry about the barn cats. Deer - - grew up with them visiting our gardens back home. I'd gladly take them again.

I seriously doubt you're doing anything wrong - - in my case it's me feeding & caring for all creatures.

I will let Mimmi know. She's just started, but I'm sure I got her going.

Start posting. You know how nice people are in this forum.

We'll all gladly help.

Lil
