Edit: If anyone can point me toward advice on avoiding and minimizing banding in skies with large gradients I'd be grateful. It's driving me nuts.

I don't see any banding in either of the last two pre-dawn shots you posted, Erich. But in general, whenever you're editing images stay in the Adobe RGB or ProPhoto RGB color space as long as you can before final output, and use 16-bit files where possible (i.e., avoid manipulating sRGB JPEGs). The display device and software you're using to view the images also makes a difference. I've noticed that LR's Library module doesn't render images in the same way that the Develop module does.

Well then I'm confused. I just recalibrated my iMac with a Spyder4 and I definitely see banding in both those images, especially the B-52 image. These were RAW files, and I keep things 16-bit and ProPhoto when sending files to/from Lightroom, Photoshop, and Nik, then convert to sRGB as the last step when saving for the web.

I second Jan Arie's heartfelt wishes!

Jan-Arie and Jim,

Thank you both. Delivery went well, and we welcomed a Baby Boy into the world at 1441 Hrs on 10 Nov. 2014. We didn't announce anything yet, as we wanted all family to know, before possibly finding out through FB. Baby Boy's name is; Robert James Nathan Eaton. He is 6 lbs 2.6 oz. and 19.5 Inches Long. He has Dark Hair & Blue Eyes just like his Mommy. Jackson & Ava have met their Baby Brother, and are happier than we've seen them in a long time. Mother & Baby are at Norton Suburban Hospital here in St. Matthews, in Room 379 in the New Tower behind the Glass Facade. Visitors are welcome.

We are overjoyed and enjoying quality time with our Newborn little man. Thank you to my Sister- Julie for making it to the Delivery Room in the nick of time, and helping out in various ways. Thank you to Fred for coming out this Afternoon, and shooting both Candid and Posed Family Photos of Kyla, Myself, the kids, Baby Boy, and our immediate family.

Thank you to everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and well wishes. Assuming all goes smooth, Robert (RJ) should go home Wednesday. Here are some pictures for everyone to view. These are off my iPhone. There are hundreds more on my DSLR.

These images were taken on my iPhone 5. I have hundreds more on my MKIV, that I will get posted/ shared in the next few days.

Again, thank you to everyone for the well wishes.

Dear Jan Arie,

You would be proud of him, he shot over 2,000 images at AFW, and he's been pouring over them cropping and tweaking. I've hooked him up with my Kelby One subscription so he can watch Photoshop tutorials. Jennifer said she had to pull the plug on him at two o'clock this morning because he was studying Photoshop under his comforter Makes a Papa proud!

You had me wondering for a moment how you got that great angle at Alliance, until I realized it wasn't the same a/c.

Was that at the October 5th Race Commemoration Show? Where about were you? Do you come to Old Warden often? We should meet up!
